Dear WCA Families,
The Upper School student retreat to Camp Friendship will be taking place on Wednesday & Thursday, October 8-9. The retreat is open to all Upper School students, as well as 5th-grade students. A recent survey was sent out to see if there was interest in a same day retreat in addition to the overnight offering. Responses for a same-day retreat were very low and not enough for WCA to provide both options this year.
If your student will be attending the October 8-9 overnight retreat, please be sure to complete the attached paperwork if you have not already done so. Details about the retreat are also attached. The cost for the retreat is $275 and covers meals, activities, lodging, and bus transportation. Important note: Registration for the retreat must be received by Thursday, September 18. Payment can be done two ways: 1) Charge $275 to FACTS account in August or 2) Charge $140 to FACTS account in August and $135 in September.
Additional WCA reminders:
- MAP testing for Lower School classes (K-5) will be taking place next week (August 18-22).
- Friday, August 29, is an early student release day at 11:30 a.m. Aftercare will be provided. Preschool classes will maintain their normal student hours on this day.
- Monday, September 1, is a student and staff holiday for all grades (PK-12) for Labor Day.
- The WCA Welcome Back event will be held on Saturday, September 6, from 11:00 a.m.-12:30 p.m.
- Family Academic Conference links are included in this newsletter if you still need to sign up for a conference (September 17-19).

- Connections Meetings: We sincerely appreciate your participation in the Connections Meetings and the time you dedicated to being there.
- Mark your calendars! Picture Day is on Tuesday, August 26. This year, we’ve partnered with PortraitWorks to handle school photography. - Represent Your Favorite Sports Team – Friday, August 29th: Students are invited to wear a jersey or t-shirt from their favorite sports team. Please note: Hats and sporting equipment are not allowed.
- Donation Drive: The Women’s Club is organizing a Donation Drive for Latisha’s House. Attached, you will find a list of donation items needed. The box is located outside the main office area in the lobby. Please bring items from August 6th to September 3rd. Latisha’s House Supply Drive
- New Date for Welcome Back Event: The WCA Welcome Back event, initially scheduled for Saturday, August 9, will be rescheduled to a new date. The rescheduled date will be Saturday, September 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. More details about the event will be shared closer to the new date.
- Golf Tournament: We are pleased to invite you to the 12th Annual WCA Soaring Eagles Golf Classic Tournament on Tuesday, August 26, 2025, at the Williamsburg Golf Club.

- MAP Testing: August 18–22
Students will participate in MAP (Measures of Academic Progress) testing during the week of August 18–22. Please ensure your child is well-rested and arrives on time each day. - Family Academic Conferences: If you haven’t yet signed up for a conference time for your child(ren), please use the appropriate link below to schedule your meeting.
- Student Government: Campaigning for student government will continue until Monday, August 18th. The Campaign will be open to all students who have submitted their applications. Candidate speeches will be held on Tuesday, August 19th, followed by elections on Wednesday, August 20th.
- Tardiness: A recent trend of increased tardiness among students at the beginning of the school day. While we understand that unforeseen circumstances can arise, consistent tardiness can disrupt the learning environment and cause students to miss important instructional time. Arriving on time allows students to settle in, prepare for the day’s lessons, and participate fully from the outset. We kindly ask for your cooperation in ensuring your child arrives at school promptly each morning. If tardiness is unavoidable, please ensure your child checks in at the main office with a written note explaining the reason for the tardiness.
- College and Career Readiness: A Look Ahead for Our Juniors and Seniors: On Wednesday, August 13th, Mrs. Renee Cermak met with all 11th and 12th-grade students for a workshop on college and career readiness. The discussion focused on equipping our upperclassmen with the tools and information they need to successfully navigate their paths after graduation.
- To help students and families with this important planning, a checklist was distributed. This resource provides a roadmap of key tasks and deadlines to help prepare students for their next steps.

- If you are a prospective cheerleader for the Winter Sports Season, please stop by the back hall after school next Wednesday to get fitted for a new team uniform. Please arrange to have a parent pick you up by 3:30 pm or you may head to After Care.
